People shape cities. They make cities unique by infusing them with culture, character, self-expression. They carve them into places that reflect the people who live in them. City Shapers is Heineken’s endeavor to find the people making our cities great and to create an innovative playground for them to test their limits. We’ll lay the groundwork to help them do what they do best – shape our cities.



The Toronto streetcar is a staple in Toronto’s urban identity. For one night, Heineken brought street artists together to transform this visible icon of the city’s culture. An exclusive party was held at an underpass in downtown Toronto where one up-and-coming artist had the chance to get up alongside three prominent Canadian street artists. Their task: with a constructed streetcar replica as their canvas and Heineken’s colour palette as their inspiration, transform the streetcar into a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. After the event, we wrapped their creation around a fleet of Toronto streetcars to transform the city’s streets.

Three influential street artists were handpicked to collaborate on the city-shaping project at Heineken’s City Canvas event. Each artist brought with them a different style, perspective, and approach. But together, they created one unique piece of artwork unlike anything the city has ever seen to transform the streets of Toronto.

Jimmy Chiale

Known for his distinctive, abstract style and vibrant bursts of colour, Jimmy Chiale takes self-expression to new heights. Originally from France, he’s collaborated with countless artists and musicians in Toronto, painting every day to leave his imprint in time.

Hey Apathy!

Mike Parson’s work is an ongoing artistic investigation into the city. Working almost exclusively in black and white, he uses people, monsters and architecture to express optimistic warning towards future days.


Montreal-based street artist WIA depicts North-American wildlife in urban habitats. Look out for his provocative deer, tattooed mallards, and cans of maple ‘sizzurp,’ in the alleyways of Montreal and Brooklyn.

On July 21, Heineken, three renowned street artists, and you and your +1 guest will come together under one overpass to create a city shaping work-of-art while a live DJ performs. Not to mention delicious eats and ice-cold Heinekens.

Hashtag your street art on Instagram with #ShapeYourCity and mention @heinekenca for the chance to win* and work alongside our City Shapers at Heineken’s City Canvas party. The winner will be given a space to transform our blank streetcar canvas beside renown street artists Hey Apathy!, WhatisAdam, and Jimmy Chiale. After the event, the finished artwork will be made into transit wraps and featured on streetcars throughout Toronto.
